not sure how to interpret variance question

#1
This is a question I have to do through R -

Consider two of the indicators for neurological functioning - the finger wrist tapping (FWT_r, FWT_l)
and the plate tapping (X2Plat_r, X2Plat_l), by both left and right hands. For which of these sets of
variables would you be inclined to use unequal variance methods for a two sample t-test to compare
the average response among lead and control groups? What about equal variance methods?

I have the data but not sure if it's asking about whether:
if variances are equal between FWT_r and FWT_l or
if variances are equal between the lead and control groups of FWT_r, and the lead and control groups of FWT_l

and the same about X2Plat_r and X2Plat_l???
